Disney is remaking Flight of the Navigator

Disney will be remaking the 1986 cult favorite Flight of the Navigator. Brad Copeland is linked to come with the script, and David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman will produce.

Flight of the Navigator was the heart-warming story of a 12 year old boy who was abducted by an alien spacecraft in 1978 and returns 8 years later still looking the same but with no memory of what has happened.

Interesting fan-made trailer for Green Lantern

I've always wondered how some people can be so perceptive as to take snippets of clips from totally non-related shows and put them together into a coherent trailer. Credit has to be given to such people for their creativity and their talent.

And so with Jaron Pitts and his latest fan-made trailer of the DC comic's Green Lantern starring none other than the "Captain Tightpants" himself - Nathan Fillion. Pitts pieced together scenes from two dozen over shows such as Serenity, Fantastic 4, Firefly, The Matrix Revolution, accompanied it with the latest Star Trek trailer score, and a massive dollop of Adobe's After Effects; he has managed to create a believable piece of work.

So could Nathan Fillion be the Green Lantern? check out the trailer and judge for yourself.

Trailer, clips and image from the remake of 'V'

I remember watching 'V' many many years ago, about the invasion of Earth by a carnivorous race of reptilians known as The Visitors. It was aired on TV 1984-1985, and starred Marc Singer (The Beastmaster) and Jane Badler as the Visitor's Diana.

ABC's remake is expected to debut in early 2010, and looks like there are plenty of familiar genre faces, from Lost, Smallville, The 4400, Firefly and more.

'V' from The 4400 creator Scott Peters will star Morena Baccarin (Firefly) who will play Anna, the leader of the Visitors who is remarkably knowledgeable about human culture and media manipulation, and bringing technology and curing of diseases.

Elizabeth Mitchell (famously known for Juliet on Lost), plays an FBI Agent Erica Evans, with partner Dale Maddox, played by Alan Tudyk (Firefly). Joel Gretsch (The 4400) plays Father Jack Landry who find himself in a difficult position to explain the coexistence of a divine presence and an alien race.

Back then, being a small kid, it was terrifying to see Diana chow down a guinea pig, and to see the reptilian skin underneath. Hopefully, ABC's remake will bring back some of these and many defining moments from the show and at the same time bring the show to a new level and making it relevant to today.

Looking forward to it.

Here's another clip of Anna addressing the world and a picture of the cast.

NBC brings back 'Chuck' but...

NBC has confirmed a deal to bring back Chuck for another season. But there's a catch...

The pickup is only for 13 episodes, and various budget concessions, including reduced number of episode for several of the supporting cast, and a possible removal of one cast member altogether. The show will also cut two of its staff writers.

But let's stay positive: Chuck is back!

Many thanks for the fans for their save Chuck campaigns including the famous the subway invasion led by the star of the show, Zachary Levi..

'George Kirk' is Thor!

Deadline Hollywood has confirmed that Chris Hemsworth is set to play the title character in Kenneth Branagh's Thor.

If you don't know who Hemsworth is, you're not the only one. The 25 year old Australian is virtual unknown except for the Home and Away crowd. You may however recognize him as James T. Kirk's father in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot. Yes, that guy , in the USS Kelvin talking to his wife in the middle of a space battle at the beginning of the show - George Kirk.

Not only that, he has reportedly being cast in the remake of Red Dawn, in the role that was played by Patrick Swayze. He is currently filming in Joss Whedon's Cabin in the Woods.

Looks like we'll be seeing a lot of more of Mr. 'George Kirk' in the near future.

Dollhouse has reported being renewed for a second season

If you're a fan of Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, it looks like there is good news on the horizon. The End Of Show blog announced that Fox has agreed to give Dollhouse a secound outing, with an option for more episodes if required.

However, with a budget slashed and show time reduced to the 42 mins per episode instead of the current 50 mins, expect to see a change in creative direction.

Personally, I happy to get another season of Dollhouse but I won't have mourn it's lost either. I personally think Sarah Conner Chronicles is a much better show and more worthy to be renewed. Dollhouse is just ok for me.

Flash Forward promo here

The logo for China's National Space Administration looks creepily like Star Trek

If you visit the China National Space Administration's website, you'll notice that the logo looks very similar to what you see on Star Trek. In fact, it's almost a combination of two logos, the Trek delta logo and the Federation crest.

Review: Star Trek - Fun, Exciting and WTF?!

OK, once was not enough! I went for my second helping. It was still as fun and as exciting the second time around. This 'new' Star Trek is probably the most exhilarating and exciting Trek I've ever seen.

The opening scene with the USS Kelvin is the most emotional since Spock dying in The Wrath of Khan. The sky-diving scene was the most breath-taking. The Enterprise popping out of warp with phasers blazing just makes me want to yell 'YEAH!'.

But...despite all the praises that Star Trek has gotten from the critics and earning a respectable $75.2 million at box office at opening weekend, there were plenty of moments during the show when I can't help but go 'huh?'.

For instance, I may not know much about science, but 3 guys jumping out of a shuttlecraft in space and into a planet's atmosphere would surely be burned up on entry, no?

What about the fact that Kirk (Chris Pine) gets marooned on an ice planet (who happened to climb out of a lifepod that landed length-wise vertically into the ground?!), and just happens to bump into the only other major character who was also stranded on the same planet. To top that off, they both happen to meet yet another beloved Trek character who just happens to be working on a trans-warp transporter, that they just happen to fix and beam themselves back to the Enterprise which is traveling at warp speed. Coincidence? Hmmm....

[Read ScifiWire's 11 things about Star Trek that made us go 'WTF?']

The look of the show has also changed. It's not the eutopian world that Gene Roddenberry envisioned, where 'everyone lives only to better themselves'. There's racial tension, there's bullying in school, there're bar-fights, there are policemen on flying bikes! Everything is dirty, worn-out; you can spot the wear-and-tear on the shuttlecrafts, as if they'll spring a leak anytime on their ride up into space. Even the new designed Starships engine room resembles an industrial plant more than the stylish clean 'engineering' we grew up with.

But, if you can put aside these nit-picks (which you probably won't even noticed because you're too busy keeping up with the excitement), this is truly movie-making at it's best. The story brings you from sad to happy, bewilderment to wonder, tears to laughter and many countless emotions in between.

The cast did a fantastic job bringing the original Trek characters to life. Chris Pine gave a fresh new spin as James T. Kirk, adding energy and cheekiness along with the priceless 'shatnerism' moments that makes you go 'yeah, that's Kirk'. The same goes to Carl Urban for his uncanny Leonard 'Bones' McCoy mannerisms, which were spot on. DeForest Kelley would have been proud. Zoe Saldana's Uhura is a picture of smart, sexy, and capable. The best though has to be Zachary Quinto's Spock. You could feel the emotional turmoil seething underneath that calm and cool logical exterior.

The other characters of Sulu (John Chu), Chekov (Anton Yelchin) and Scotty (Simon Pegg) were more supporting roles, but still manages to have their moments even if they're not as memorable. The line-up also included a slate of heavy-weight veterans like Leonard Nimoy, Winona Ryder, Ben Cross. For Alias fans, look out for Rachel Nichols in green! What a laugh-out-loud moment.

Lastly, kudos to J.J. Abrams and his usual suspects. They've done what they set out to do and more, which was to make Star Trek the talk of the town again, breathing new life into a franchise that was on its death-bed, and updating Trek for the 21st century audience.

I'm now eagerly waiting for the DVD release and can't wait to see the crew of the Enterprise in their next adventure.

Wolverine's Deadpool gets his own spin-off

Well, it's official, following the box office success of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, 20th Century Fox has confirmed with E! News that a new spin-off is in the works, featuring Deadpool, the wise-cracking mercenary played by Ryan Reynolds (otherwise known as Mr Scarlett Johansson.)

Reynolds is expected to reprise the character as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, with Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel Studios as producers.

Deadpool is a fan favorite anti-hero, and nicknamed as the "merc with a mouth". He is a product of the same Weapon X program as Wolverine. After Weapon X cured his terminal cancer, Deadpool is left disfigured and mentally unstable.

It's understood that the movie would be another "origins" type treatment, going back to the roots of the character known for his slapstick tone. But nothing is official yet. The writers are busy pitching the story.

Aside from Deadpool and the Wolverine sequel, Fox is also working on an X-Men spinoff focusing on Ian McKellen's villainous Magneto and another dubbed X-Men: First Class, which is being written by The O.C. creator Josh Schwartz.

NBC picks up Heroes, Day One

NBC announced it will pick up the superhero action/drama Heroes and the new apocalyptic drama Day One for the fall 2009-10 television season. Several other series remained in limbo, including Chuck and Medium, with the decision on those postponed until May 19.

Heroes had previously been tapped for the fall, although NBC entertainment president Angela Bromstad stated last month that the network planned a slightly shorter episode order of 18 to 20 episodes for the sci-fi action/drama. Other non-sci-fi returning series include Southland, Parks and Recreation and Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday.

On the new series front, Day One is planned as a limited "event series." The new series from Jesse Alexander and Alex Graves involves what happens to a band of survivors after a global catastrophe devastates the world's infrastructures. The series stars Adam Campbell, Catherine Dent, Julie Gonzalo, David Lyons, Derek Mio, Carly Pope, Thekla Reuten and Addison Timlin. Day One will be held until midseason to be launched out of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games at the end of February, NBC announced.

Other non-sci-fi new series pickups include Trauma, Parenthood, Mercy, Community, 100 Questions and the previously announced The Jay Leno Show.

Over the weekend, reports by insiders stated that Medium had already been picked up. NBC said the psychic family drama may still be picked up for a sixth season, but no decisions have been made yet regarding its future.

Zachary Quinto on Spock's future.

Zachary Quinto, who plays the role of Spock in J.J. Abrams' new rebooted Star Trek, talks about how the movie sets up for future adventures.

"We spent a lot of time in this film introducing these characters and exploring the events that lead them to the convergence as the crew of the Enterprise," Quinto said in an exclusive interview last week in Beverly Hills, Calif. "So I imagine that in future films, or the next film or the next installment, we would probably settle into some sort of cohesion as a crew, as individuals and as a unit."

"I'd be really interested to see what happens between Spock and Uhura (Zoe Saldana) and with Kirk (Chris Pine) and that sort of triangle. And, ... for me, one of the greatest things about this movie was the emotional immersion of my character. So I would love to see that manifest itself in a different way." He added.

The film charts the first meetings of the characters that we all know, eventually make up the crew of the starship Enterprise.

Asked if there are more Star Trek films, how is he going to balance that with his commitment with Heroes?

"I don't know. I mean, we go back to Heroes, like, two weeks after I finish this press tour. So right now I'm just sort of, I'm engaging what's right in front of me, and I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I mean, we worked it out last time. Ultimately, the arrangement we made ended up being rendered moot by the writers' strike, so it wasn't something that we had to concern ourselves with. But we'll see. ... I pay people to make those decisions and have those conversations. I don't have to, luckily."

Fringe renewed for another season

Fox announced today that it has renewed the sci-fi thriller Fringe for a second season, with a full 22-episode order. Fringe, a mysterious X-Files-esque series featuring plenty of gruesome murders and tons of mythology, is the No. 1 new drama among adults 18-49 this season.

"Fringe proved to be a notable addition to our schedule all season and it really has fans buzzing as it builds to a fantastic season finale," said Fox's president of entertainment, Kevin Reilly. "J.J. and the whole Bad Robot team have been phenomenal partners, and we look forward to years of making great television with them."

Series co-creator and executive producer J.J. Abrams added: "Fringe continues to gain momentum, creatively and with viewers. We couldn't be more thrilled that Fringe will continue to freak people out for at least another season!"

Along with the early pickup, there's big casting news involving Star Trek's Leonard Nimoy, Fox announced. "Questions will be answered when the first season of Fringe wraps up with two all-new episodes. First, on Tuesday, May 5 (9:01-10:00 PM ET/PT), Olivia experiences 'awake dreams,' Walter divulges key information about the Z.F.T. manifesto and Peter reveals a secret that yields unexpected results in a disturbing case. In the climactic finale airing Tuesday, May 12 (9:04-10:00 PM ET/PT), discoveries are made, loyalties are tested, otherworldly origins are discovered and guest star Leonard Nimoy debuts as a pivotal person of interest."

Fringe was created by J.J. Abrams & Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and stars Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, John Noble, Lance Reddick, Kirk Acevedo, Blair Brown and Jasika Nicole.
